U.A.E. Flag: Word Colouring

Children work in groups or as a whole class to create a beautiful and meaningful version of the U.A.E. flag. The children are tasked by the project manager with first gathering a list of significant people, places and events. Then, the children “colour in” the sections of the flags by writing these words in the appropriate colours. As a further challenge, children could group the words by themes that they choose. Children can use the Little PM “U.A.E. Timeline” poster to help them gather ideas.

U.A.E. Flag: Colour Meanings

Children can research the story behind the design of the flag and the original meanings of the colours (using the QR code).
Children can work in groups to come up with ideas for what the colours could represent in present day U.A.E. e.g. green could represent sustainability.
As a further challenge, children could look at the original poem that inspired the colours and then turn their new ideas into a poem.

Formation of the Union Playscript

Task your teams of children with creating a short playscript where they reenact the story of the union (1968-1972). Depending on the age of the children, you may wish to provide more support, such as a cast of characters or an overview of the key events.
Instead, you may task them with find out more themselves from the Little PM online timeline using this QR code.

Heritage Sites Virtual Tour

In teams, children choose a famous U.A.E. landmark and prepare an audio-visual tour. They should decide on a small number of key locations in the site, find corresponding images online and write a short script to narrate key information about that location. They can use their device microphone to record their section of the tour over the relevant pictures. The tours can then be played back and enjoyed by the whole class.
